Drinking Water While Exercising

Although water has no calories, we should consider drink it carefully when we are exercising. When we drink water while exercising, when our heart is beating too fast and cannot breathe properly, it could be very dangerous for the body and cause hyponatremia. Hyponatremia is a disease caused when the natrium in our blood is lower than the average. When we drink water while the heart is puffing and having hard time to breathe and sweating, the surplus water gets absorbed into the cells and increases the blood pressure then damages some of the organs such as the brain cells, the lungs and the heart.

The symptoms for hyponatremia are headaches, nausea, difficulty in breathing, dizziness and muscle spasm. If the condition gets worse, you could get pulmonary edema, cerebral edema or coma and for the worst case you could actually lose your life. Although it is important to provide enough water to the body when we exercise but we have to be careful to drink not too much that it can threaten your life. An adequate amount is about a half to a cup for every 15 to 30 minutes and it should not excess over four cups.
