Lunchtime Lipo
They have nicknamed it “Lunchtime Lipo” and you’ve probably heard about it. If you drive around town, you will see it on signs, if you go to a “medical spa”, they will have flyers and signs offering it, if you listen to the radio they have ads there too. You cannot avoid hearing about Lunchtime Lipo. They have nicknamed it this, because it is quick, there is no down or recovery time, and you can literally get it done in your lunch hour if you want. They target certain areas of the body, injecting a fat dissolving liquid into those areas, and then theoretically you urinate or defecate it out. It follows the same logic that is used when they put you into body wraps at your local spa to melt fat, except in this case it is supposed to be more direct and more exact, because it injects directly into the body.
Unfortunately, it is not an exact science, and it shows through customer feedback or rather customer complaints. Some have reported that it does melt fat. The only problem is that the fat doesn’t leave the body in the way that you might expect.
In one case, a woman went in for Lunchtime Lipo, and a few hours later, she discovered a large tennis ball sized lump sticking out of her stomach. She went back to the clinic to see what was going on and what she should do about it. But despite what you might expect, she did not receive the concerned response she was hoping for. Instead, they told her that this was completely normal, to be expected, and they were even thrilled, because it showed that it was “working.” The nurse’s exact words were “Oh my goodness that is so wonderful. All your fat cells have congregated in one area. If all our patients were like this, we’d be out of business because you know that fat’s just going. You’re the perfect person for this.” She was right on one thing. If it happened to all their patients, they would be out of business. Days later, this same woman realized that the lump had become the size of a grapefruit, and she suffered a life threatening staph infection which required emergency surgery to remove dead tissue.
Frankly, my thought is that it would be a natural instinct and common sense to realize that a lump in the stomach, no matter what you think it is, is not a good thing. After all, if fat has coagulated to that hard a lump, it isn’t going to pass out of the body or you will have to wait until it dissolves, at which time it may well simply absorb back into the body. But in this case, it could have very well killed her. For this reason among others, plastic surgeons across the country as well as other medical professionals are warning against this procedure due to no standardized formula and lack of FDA approval as well as severe side effects. There are definitely less invasive options.
